Sky Aint the Limit

Commisioned public sculpture

"In 2014, the city of Rotterdam commissioned the visionary artist Timboin to create an iconic outdoor sculpture that would grace the urban landscape for a year. At the time, Timboin found himself in a challenging position, as he was supporting his firstborn son, who was bravely battling the debilitating disease of Cystic Fibrosis. Motivated by a profound desire to empower his son and inspired by the idea that the human mind can overcome any obstacle, Timboin embarked on a creative journey that resulted in a remarkable work of art.

The sculpture, standing at an impressive height of 12 feet, is a testament to Timboin's unwavering dedication to his son's well-being and his belief in the power of art to transcend adversity. It is a visually striking representation of the esoteric concept of 'future holding the world.' At its pinnacle, the sculpture cradles the Earth itself, a symbol of the boundless potential and responsibility that the future holds.

Timboin meticulously crafted the sculpture in his studio, employing stone-like materials and a robust steel inner frame to ensure its enduring presence. The creative process was imbued with care and devotion, mirroring the artist's deep love for his son. As the artist applied layer upon layer of paint, transitioning from a vibrant blue at the base to a pristine white at the pinnacle, the artwork came to life. This transformation from 'below' to 'above' symbolizes the journey of ascension and growth, underscoring the idea that our dreams and aspirations know no bounds.

The finished sculpture, aptly named 'The Sky Ain't the Limit,' found its designated location in Rotterdam, strategically placed just 50 meters from the door where Timboin's son resided with his mother. This intentional placement serves as a poignant reminder of the artist's unwavering love and support for his child, as well as a message of hope and resilience for all who encounter the artwork.

Furthermore, in recognition of his exceptional talent and dedication to the world of art, Timboin was selected for the prestigious Prix de Rome art prize. This distinction placed him among the last six attendees of this illustrious award, further cementing his status as a prominent figure in the contemporary art world.

'The Sky Ain't the Limit' stands not only as a remarkable work of art but also as a testament to the power of the human spirit to transcend adversity and reach for the stars. It is a symbol of love, perseverance, and the boundless potential that lies within each of us, inspiring all who view it to believe that, indeed, the sky is not the limit."
